Science Channel Holds Second Annual STEM Diversity Symposium on Capitol Hill

Yesterday, Science Channel hosted its second annual STEM Diversity Symposium on Capitol Hill focused on the accomplishments women and minorities have made in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), as well as the importance of encouraging more women and minorities to pursue STEM studies and careers.

The symposium featured remarks by Congressional leaders Mark Takai (HI) and Donna Edwards (MD) on diversity in STEM, followed by a panel discussion, which included: NASA Astronaut and engineer, Leland Melvin; Debbie Berebichez, physicist and host of Outrageous Acts of Science; Debbie Jarvis, Vice President of Corporate Citizenship and Social Responsibility for Pepco Holdings, Inc.; and Judy Vredenburgh, President and CEO of Girls, Inc.

The symposium was held in conjunction with members of the Congressional Black Caucus, Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus and the Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues. Dexter Cole, Vice President of Programming for Science Channel, moderated.
